Although sleep deprivation is a big problem, there are many ways to mitigate its effects, get information and modify your lifestyle in order to get more sleep.
How to modify your lifestyle:
Here's who can help:
There are many things you can do to find more time to get sleep. Read the full list below.
- Plan out your day and pack any bags the night before so that you don't have to worry about it in the morning.
- Try not to get a lot of screen time before sleeping if you are having trouble falling asleep. Many studies have shown that children who watch tv before bed have a harder time falling asleep.
- Avoid consuming very heavy meals right before bed. Drinking water also aids falling asleep because you can sleep better and wake up more easily when hydrated.
- Don't eat or drink lots of caffeinated foods before going to bed. These foods act as a stimulant and make it hard to relax enough to fall asleep.
The video above explores the importance of sleep and how manipulating the amount of sleep you get can positively impact your life. The TED Talk speaker is Penny Lewis.
